Thundercats Ho!

image

Now before I continue, let me just say that this was my absolute favourite cartoon growing up, so it needed a write up. Thundercats is an American animated television series developed by Rankin/Bass in 1983 based on the characters created by Tobin “Ted” Wolf. The animation was provided by Topcraft, a Japanese group who would later go on to form Studio Ghibli. Now Thundercats looks to entertain a new generation. Modern tastes and specifications of what a hero should look like have evidently changed.

I see that the new look Liono (main character) has adopted a more skewed look and a bit younger may I add. The basic colour scheme is about the same (red hair, blue suit) but the costume has changed which to be honest with you I understand (it’s kind of tough to look at a hero in his underwear in this day and age) its amazing how times and tastes have changed - as its out with the 1980’s muscle middle age and in with the teen, slim Pokemon version. I dont mind the new interpretation of Liono. What do the other die hard Thundercats fans think?

lame, I think I can beat the new Liono up! He’s too common, too skinny ...

but it’s great to know Thundercats are coming back smile I also grew watching this. Is there anywhere we can see the other characters ?

Oh man…they’ve changed the hair!!! It was everything! And, what’s up with the creepy feet?? Looks like version 07 is the lost soon of old Liono.

I do like the new cool down color scheme and outfit, though.

Posted by Leticia on Tuesday, January 2007 at 1:07 AM

Yeah, not a big fan.  I don’t think most of the older collectors will be actually.  Not to mention that kids are so fickle now a days that none of them will ever get that into the show.  I agree with Leticia, the hair really needs to change.

The new Liono looks like he can’t lift his sword let alone fight with it!!!!! and I do agree about the hair, it looks a bit stiggy.

On the other hand I like the cool new outfit and the creepy feet. A bit on the skinny side but looks more cool calm and collective. If you get any new pics (Mumra) be sure to keep me posted bro!!

Where did you get this, may I ask? Are you involved in production?  I’d definitely like to know if this is real or not.

Posted by Manny Fleur on Saturday, January 2007 at 2:38 PM

I, too, am curious how you got your hands on this image. The series hasn’t been officially announced yet from WB and CN, so I’m curious on how you got this image.

Also, of note, Warner Bros. is releasing new merchandise featuring both the new Thundercats (not that I’m saying that this is indeed the new Lion-O) as well as the classic designs for the older fans of the original beginning in the fall.

Japan called, they want their art style back.

Come on, American producers! DRAW SOMETHING ORIGINAL FOR ONCE!

Posted by The Amazing Doctor Skull on Monday, January 2007 at 6:57 AM

You have GOT to be KIDDING!  This is the new Lion-O??  The character looks like a Thunderian villain or Lion-O’s evil clone!  And look at how scrawny he is.  The original Lion-O would thrash this guy in nothing flat!  If this is the 2007 Lion-O, I shudder to think what the other “updated”  Thundercats must look like.  Probably like something out of the late Ted Wolf’s worst nightmares!

Posted by Patricia Hayes on Monday, January 2007 at 9:32 AM

The new Lion-O looks like he’s going to have sex with men.

The old Lion-O does not.

Posted by Jack on Tuesday, January 2007 at 2:13 AM

Oh…my…gosh! No, you have to be kidding. Hell, Tom and Jerry can beat this guy up. It’s sad to think that this is the ideal man that the producers want to portray for our next generation.  I have nothing against japan Art but this is a step down for the Thundercats. Uunless these guys are teenagers that grow up to be real thundercats this shit sucks!

Posted by James on Tuesday, January 2007 at 2:37 AM

You’ve got that right, Jack!  This new version of Lion-O isn’t a Thudercat.  He’s an alley cat!

Posted by Patricia Hayes on Tuesday, January 2007 at 4:25 AM

It Sucks!!!!

Posted by Seba on Tuesday, January 2007 at 10:51 AM

Lion-o lion-o lion-o, Wheres his camp belly top, his long flowing Charlie’s Angels style 80’s hair, his eye-liner and speedos? They call this a Thundercat…I call him an imposter. How is he meant to protect himself without his Shield-Claw and the Sword of Omens already looks full-size!-does this mean NO animated montages of Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats, HOOO, with the mighty sword growing! One word fellow readers, RUBBISH!

I hope they dont bugger around with Panthro too much, that guy would kick Chuck Norris’ ass! He needs to stay looking badder than Mr. T without his morning coffee!

Posted by Andy Wyatt on Wednesday, January 2007 at 9:18 PM

Look, I grew up with Thundercats, and you know what?  I’m NOT going to throw a big fit over the new designs.  Unlike, say, Transformers fans, I’m not so married to the original that the slightest deviation feels like someone’s peeing on the Bible.

Besides, the modernized Ninja Turtles and He-Man were hundreds of times better than the originals.  Anyone who disagrees is just so blinded by nostalgia that they can’t realize how bad the 80s cartoons really were.

So yeah, seriously, calm down people.  You’re judging the whole thing based off of a single, early character design. That’s like basing your opinion of a movie off of a single screencap. I’m pretty sure all the whining will get them to bulk Lion-O up, give him the gauntlet back, and such, but don’t start wishing for the goofy, homoerotic 80s version to be brought back.

Posted by AmuroNT1 on Thursday, January 2007 at 5:13 AM

I agree with AmuroNT1, Just cos its different, doesnt mean its bad, and personally i like the new look, just cos Liono is missing his big buff butch muscle from the 80s and his Bon Jovi hair style doesnt mean he’s not going to kick ass.

Some1 earlier also sed the new 1 looks like he sexes men, and the 80s Liono does not? HAH! comeon Liono and He-Man are probably responsible for this generations Gay Community, matcho men in tights.
I think if u like Thundercats for what it was in the 80s, awesome, me too, but dont throw down the new 1 before u have seen it because you dont fancy Liono anymore.

whats with the good old shows being remade with common crappy cookie cutter animation.

So someone found some things. Rumor has it:
- WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series.
- The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans.
- The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA)
- The Thundercats are all teenagers.
- Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a “third” eye.
- Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an “Eye of Thunderra” and transformative powers (not just Lion-O)
- When they aren’t fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band.
- Mum-Ra now has wings.”

Posted by Valise aka Forgotten Maz on Tuesday, January 2007 at 6:02 AM

I just hope those rumors are false :(

Posted by Valise on Tuesday, January 2007 at 6:03 AM

I don’t mind the new design, in fact I actually like it. As long as they put some real effort into the series than I’ll be happy and I look forward to more news on it.

Posted by Brad Thorne on Monday, January 2007 at 4:01 AM

I have to say it doesn’t look that bad. I was a huge fan of Thundercats, born in 1980 i was about the right age to appreceate it and let it grow with me.  I think many of you critisising the change are remembering the joy you experienced as children, not the actual quality of the show. The old style characters looked cool and acted perfectly for the early 80’s but todays children are a lot more cynical than us. They have to change to not look dated and the ninja style is just right. Interesting to see how they do Kit & Kat in this new style. They were always my favorties. And lets not forget, Liono was only a kid who aged in a faulty stasis tube so may be he should look thin and scrawny.

Posted by Shaman X on Monday, January 2007 at 10:01 PM

I have to say a couple of things…

First of all I´m totally ok with Lion-O´s new look, come on I loved the original series when I was a kid, but even when I´m a big fan now I can´t stand watching them very much. If you are trying to sell this to the new generation, the guys on their underware and all perfect are soooo over!!

Also the age change for him is ok cause if you remember the original storyline, everybody treated him as a very young man, even the ones who didn´t know his background! so actually they drew him too old on the original series.

About the muscle… do you know any bodybuilders? have you see them walk or dance? they can hardly move!! If you want some cartoon to look agile (especially is if a CAT) you cant draw that much muscle..

Finally about his changes… he was too sane!
Come on if you are fans you should remember everything about that guy: No known mother, he have seen his father practically die, seen planet, friends, other family, youth, future, etc literally explode right in front of his eyes WHEN HE WAS 12!! then to wake up to face he has fo fight for his life and maybe had killed in self deffense… don´t you think that can affect your personality and give you maybe a rebel attitude? If in a fantasy world that happened to me, I would have become a total Freak, probably a darkie and won´t give a pickle about anything…

But about the general changes….

All teenagers? Playing in a band??? Transformative powers??? Living in modern times Earth??? in LA?????!!!!!!

THIS ARE NOT FREAKING POWER RANGERS!!! they must have more respect to the original storyline!! THAT HAS TO BE A AWFULL HOAX! I would work more in their personalities, their background and interactions, like was done with X-men, but nothing else…

Posted by Samara on Saturday, February 2007 at 8:41 AM

The costume isn’t necessarily bad, but his physique and hair is all wrong. The old Lion-O would demolish the “new” Lion-O. I say we ban this new series, rock band and all!!

Posted by Bill Taylor on Sunday, February 2007 at 2:21 AM

Ok Lion O on crack, or some hi metabolism drug. I understand the marketing to a younger generation, but you do not have to compromise on history. What made the Thundercats awesome was the releationship of the characters. Yes Lion O maybe should have had more issues because of his up bring. But that was the whole point, Panthro, Cheetara, Tygra, Jaga and evern Snarf where surrogot parents to the cocky little fur ball.

Mumra the ever living is evil, it not a 9 to 5 it’s who he is.
The mutants Slythe, Monkey man, Jackal man where the most selfish,  cowardly villians you could come across, but you never turned your back on them. It shows just how much big business thinks about the younger generation. Anything flashy, pumped up, colorful, loud with a weak story they’ll eatup like candy. They don’t respect there viewer, which is proven by this lame attempt to revamp a aniamtion icon. No more will little boys go out into the street with the sticks held high calling on the power of the sword of Omens and uniting there feline brethern with a might “Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”

No my comrades, they don’t respect nada but the almight dollar. The new Lion 0 gets a Lion NO.

i saw this new design off of deviantart.com by a guy that goes by the name “2-cents.”  i think it’s joaqim dos santos who did a pin-up in the tcats sourcebook a few yrs ago.  it’s a cool design (very ninja-esque, & me likes ninjas!) but i didn’t think that design was picked up by wb.  IS this the official new design?  i wonder what the other characters will look like.

& i heard that all the crap about the tcats being in a damn rock band in LA was…well, a bunch of crap.  *crosses fingers*

i lurve me some classic tcats just like every1 else on here, but i’m cool w/ new design work (pleeeeeeaaaase give lion-o some pants.  you can’t fight evil in speedos anymore.), better storyline (wb has some awesome writers; just look @ jlu & batman), & better quality animation.  i can pull out the dvd sets for nostalgia, but i’m ready for some new stuff too!

Posted by saltygirl on Tuesday, February 2007 at 2:03 PM

i must agree, desgin doesnt matter to me so much as basic elemts of sanity and atleast a decnet respect of the old story is adhered too, la is in the same state as san fran, which is as bad as being in san fran, go som ewhere else than west coast

Posted by doug on Tuesday, February 2007 at 7:54 PM

The original looked like a mix between a super hero and a barbarian warrior. Cool.

The new one looks like a mix between a werewolf punk rocker and an aerobics instructor. Not cool.

I shudder to think what they’ll do with the theme tune. Oh well, at least the original will always be there.

Posted by super_nashwan on Thursday, February 2007 at 5:41 AM

What the FUCK!

Do you truly think this skinny ass bitch can be the leader of the thundercats?

I no its only a cartoon but I cant see my self respecting this new version. You need to have a tough looking more serious leader than this one. I no cartoons are ment to more or less only appeal to kids but trust me kids if you turn that cartoon into a joke especialy when many people have seen the old cartoon then this aint goin to do so well.

FUCK IT! I think you need to redo that shit.

Posted by Breezie on Sunday, March 2007 at 7:12 AM

Hm…The people working on the new series are not respecting the original surce material me thinks. Even the comic books respected the source material…somewhat (though they gave it an unnecessarily lewd tone) yet character designs were still the same, if not better. If they can remake this series, the same way they remade he-man, then the new thundercats series will be perfect!

Posted by Z on Tuesday, April 2007 at 9:38 AM

i think he is just a bit skinny, but i like the direction you are headed in.  Maybe just a bit more muscle, and bolk added to his legs and he would look fine.  i really like the new eyes!

Posted by Kerri on Wednesday, April 2007 at 1:40 AM

Whaaat?? But his previous eyes were the best part of him, when they were well drawn of course… They were the cause of lots of girls (young girls) thinking WHY IS HE NOT REAL??, you change that, you kill the charm

Well really still l0ve the original, the new version is ok, not sure about the long silver toe nails, i know their supposed to be claws but they’re a bit freaky and don’t even start with the elbow hair? Keep it original me think! Hey Sean Bediako, just wanted to say hi, remember me from 20/20.  hope you’re cool. Dying to see you again. Take care.

I too was a HUGE fan of Thundercats as a kid and enjoy re-watching them with my own children.  I am excited to hear that it is comming back, however, I just cant buy into the new Lion-O look.  I could believe it is what Wyli-Kat would look like older, but not Lion-O.  Change my be needed, but not to the extreme.  The creators need to remember that the origanal fans are not to old as to know the differance between the old Lion-O and the new teeny, Pokemon look.  I disapprove!

Posted by KC on Saturday, April 2007 at 2:27 AM

Ha, the good old days when good was bad, heroes had bad voice acting but everything was as it should be…  The new Lion-o looks more sinister than heroic though, a scrawny character that says more, “Im gonna get ya…” than “Thundercats ho!!!”.  They really did it over… my my my… I’ll wait and see how the newer generation reacts.

Has anyone seen the comics, its supposed to be filled with sexual ‘undertones’ and that its a post-apocalyptic universe where Mumm-ra won…

Posted by Lion Gonzales on Saturday, April 2007 at 4:52 PM

leave the origanal version alone they rock new version sucks

Posted by Lynn Laraby on Thursday, April 2007 at 7:38 AM

My girlfriend doesn’t believe me when I tell her Tigra is gay.

Has anyone seen the episode with the ” Brute Men? ” Tigra is so gay.  In fact he’s as gay as the new look Lion O, well okay he’s not that gay but he’s still very gay.

Posted by Carino on Saturday, April 2007 at 3:43 AM

Leave him alone. Tigra is not gay (not that we care if he is; we embrace him irrespective of his sexual orientation). But doesn’t he have a thing for Cheetara? Those two are always off ‘exploring caves’ together… N.B. You are not watching the Brute Men episode again!

Posted by Missy on Saturday, April 2007 at 4:19 AM

A thing for Cheetara, The ” ThunderCat Ho ”?  Yeah right!  That’s like saying Luke and Leia would have made a cute couple.  It just isn’t gonna happen.

Now, I don’t have a problem with Tigra being gay but dude just leave the Brute Men alone.  They’re just mindelss zombies who have no idea what they’re doing.  And plus there’s so many of them and just one Tigra.  It doesn’t even bare thinking about.

Actually, if he played his cards right I’m sure Panthro wouldn’t object to exploring the caves with him.
Now that’s one dude you wouldn’t want to share a cell with.

Posted by Carino on Saturday, April 2007 at 5:08 AM

I can’t believe you’ve dragged Panthro into this. You’re turning ThunderCats into a ‘Big Gay Out’. Where’s your respect?

Posted by Missy on Saturday, April 2007 at 5:44 AM

im a fan of thunder cats i watched it everytime it came on but i was never able to finish the series. wahh thank goodness its now on dvd muahahaha
i just need to buy them now.

i personally love the new style(probably because im an otaku, ), it personally makes more sense i mean he was in a large tube for quite some time, he’s lucky he even gots muscles than the old one but they should of tried making his hair more like the origional, but oh well, wait but he was in that tube for a looooooooong time i would think his hair would grow that long .  As for the new story line if thats true they should stick with the old one well unless they go through some weird demensional warp that would be a bit weird.(crap now ideas are running through my mind) the picture with the full sword its just probably to show him when hes in battle mode.
quick question for those who’ve seen the whole series isnt kit and kat older than lion o, i mean they make look younger but they didnt even age in the tubes, yet he ages (note to you guys i have seen the episodes in over five years, especially the first episode)
oh also note to people ASH DOESNT EVEN Have any real muscles so stop refering the new version of lion o as a jacked up pokemon version. its like you guys are obsessed with making fun of pokemon (the english dub you see in america is cut up to the EXTREME, they take out alot , just like they did card captors)

i cant wait till the new verison of thunder cats comes out i want to see how good or bad it is and if the voices feel right.
thank you for posting the pictures now im going to look up more info on the series. thank you

Posted by kya koshina on Wednesday, May 2007 at 4:50 AM

oh and one more note both the animation new and old in this pic ARE FAR BETTER than the stupid shows they air in the morning and afternoon for kids these days from the american animators like say fruit salad island i think it was or lucha libre or whatever it was called i garantee its the japanese animation that they air with those crappy shows that gets the kids up in the morning. ive only seen a few good american made animation these days and they usually coincide with a japanese artist for help.

Posted by kya koshina on Wednesday, May 2007 at 5:10 AM

This is a travesty! I can agree that the cartoon needs updating but liono, doesn’t look like a leader. He looks like a ferret! The look would be ok, if he was at least half athletic looking. The sword of omens looks to big for him. If they try this with panthro, i will actually be sick in my mouth!

Posted by ED on Thursday, May 2007 at 4:40 AM

Never…Old Lion-o is the best…there’s no need to be changed, It’s better to remasterized the old serie rather than making a new one

Posted by Lala on Sunday, May 2007 at 1:16 AM

...wow this lion O, looks like a lion hoe..he is so skrony and child like…i wonder how young cheetara looks…i swear if she looks the same age as my 13 year sister ..i going to write a letter…america honestly if you want and up to date lion O that the fans would love..give me a hollar and i swear i wont dissapoint!

Posted by George on Saturday, May 2007 at 11:14 PM

The artwork is cool if the original thundercats had never existed.  But knowing what lion-o is supposed to look like, that image looks like a lame doppleganger.  Thundercats could be remade if you take the advice of actual fans of the series and not try to gear it completely towards children under the age of ten.  I would really like to know where to post my sketches and concepts.  This should be on cartoon network, toonami or adult swim, with amazing art and animation.  It could be done.

Posted by clasik81 on Monday, May 2007 at 1:16 AM

Well, I’m cool with this new Lion-O.  I actually am a big fan of the pretty-boy manga look, so in fact I would even go so far as to say that I PREFER this new Lion-O to the old one (hardcore fans of the original series please do not maul me).

I loved Thundercats as a kid, but watching it again now the characterisation is very weak for my tastes.  It follows the classic eighties theme of good guys always being perfect and bad guys always being stupid.

Now I loves me a flawed character.  I’m MUCH more likely to get into a show where the good guys are battling their own inner demons, and where the bad guys have some kind of motive - I mean, come on, the bad guys had NO motive for wanting the Eye in the original series, it can’t be used for evil so what would they do with it if they got it?

I’m hoping the modernised version will plump out the characters a bit - since the eighties, perfect heroes have gone out and angsty anti-heroes with a rebellious kick are IN in a big way.  I’m looking forward to seeing where they take this.

The futuristic setting for the original kicked butt.  I’m not too sure about this modern day rock band thing.  But I reserve judgement until I see it.

come on! i am 17 and i can totally take down the new version of Liono in like 2 seconds. what happened to the old versions! T_T come on - the new version makes Liono look rather gay and not that appealing. and i have to say this - he looks like he hasn’t even reached pubertiy.

Posted by Misha on Sunday, May 2007 at 1:52 PM

I never likes thundercats when I was a kid. I was a Turtles fan. However, I have to say Liono looks weak, skinny and well… crap. he looks like a furry Nightcrawler with a sword. A sword he hasn’t the strength to wield. Okay, the over-bearing muscle of the original is rather OTT, but complete polar opposite of the original is rather silly. Just a bit of muscle, even a small amount, that shows a little bit of strength. I keep imagining him fighting and bringing horrible reminders of Steve Smith from “American Dad” fighting. with weak pathetic ‘ugh’s. On the plus side, the action figures will be made of less material and should be cheaper.

Posted by Canazza on Monday, May 2007 at 2:25 AM

Well personally I reckon the old Liono and the new Liono BOTH look like extremely homosexual.

What’s with the belly button revealing section of the old liono’s costume, and the wavy perm, HMM?

Old Liono looks better, but he should be wearing new liono’s clothes.

Posted by Ten98 on Monday, May 2007 at 2:52 AM

oh my gosh cant believe thay did this to liono what is this about?!!! it might be sad but thunder cats were a big part of my childhood and if its going to be reinvented in this way it would just rubbish all my fond memories of this childhood classic!!!!

Posted by lil mirlo on Monday, May 2007 at 4:12 AM

Who are the authors of the new Tundercats?

Posted by Mark on Thursday, May 2007 at 2:01 AM

The new look give the idea of more agile and fancy character, but i still think it might need more hair and muscle, afte all, he is the LEADER of the Thundercats and hypotetically speaking, is a humanoid wich evolved from the lion species, they are not smal cats and the hair is everything for the look of a male lion.
Of course i know that the apearence means nothing for the poews of an anime character, specially nowadays, but i think it wont be bad to mantain some other concepts, not just the costumes, color scheme and the sword design.

i know we need the old thundercats and that a little fixing wouldn’t hurt but you are way off we need to show the new generation what the thundercats are about so don;t change it too much this new fixing looks like a whole different character we need the old thunder cats

I can say i really don’t like it. I read some other comments posted here and most seem sane enough i grew up with them and loved it but i was eight too. I look back at some of that stuff an cringe now that i’m older. but it dose need a rework i ‘d rather seem some thing closer to bleach’s character design some thing i really like now

Posted by luis on Sunday, June 2007 at 1:43 AM

all im guna say is the new ones is too thin and the hair is crap! other than that it aint bad but ya cant beat the original i dont think

Posted by Gemma Jones on Sunday, June 2007 at 6:53 PM

I personally like the more slender physique. This is mostly because even when I was little and watching the series as it first emerged I couldn’t understand how Lion-O could go from age 10 to age 30 in his sleep and come out looking like a muscle-bound grotesque. It just doesn’t make sense. Sure he’s a lion, but getting that kind of buff build takes work. Things have to make sense even in fantasy. And sleep doesn’t build muscle mass. The leaner build of the new Lion-O in the image is more like what could happen when a small body could look like as it strained through untrained and lack of proper nutrition as it grew…

Posted by Penny on Monday, June 2007 at 4:02 AM

The new version of Lion-o is great and truly reflects changes in expectations of male physiques.  Broad shoulders and strength will always be in.  This Lion-o may be thin but it looks like he has more of a gymnist/martial artists strength; plus, look at those shoulders - they’re broad (and the same size as they were in the past, he just has smaller not as “cut” muscle”).  He looks more cat-like but definately less lion like (I would say lions fit more with the physique of the older Lion-O).  All in all strength is not in the muscle size.

Speaking as a young lady, I would date the new Lion-o.  His skinny build, hair, and looks are what a lot of young ladies like.  Some ladies especially like the extremely emacipated “maneroxics”.  That’s a bit too far for me.  A skinny strong build is preferable.  I think it’s the whole “if he messes with me it looks like I can take him on”.  Ah well, new Lion-o sure is drool worthy.

Posted by Dee on Friday, June 2007 at 12:18 AM

I dont care for it.  I think alot of remake cartoons fail because they try to reinvent them.  It loses what make it appealing. They should just update the look, like in ThunderCats -  the Return the comic book.  Now that was fresh.  But because its Thundercats ill give it a chance regardless, I hope it lasts longer than He-Man did, presuming its good that is.

Come on people, I agree, the old version was great… And I was born in ‘89… get over the change, don’t think that all remakes of good old shows are gonna suck… give the show a chance…  We shall all see how it is when/if it ever does finally come out, and honestly, I think the new look is nice, I think the buff guy look and tight clothes don’t work too well together, so the new look is less creepy in my eyes.

And so what if they changed the story-line a bit, the old story-line was lacking in some places, and a modern-day story-line sounds nice in my own opinion… I say we need to see designs of the other characters too.

WHAT… is this version of Lion-o official?!  I hate it and it would be like watching a different movie not Thundercats… tasteful and i just don’t like it!  WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PEOPLE?!  if that’s the character of Lion-o, i’m not going to waste my time… watching this crap!  (even though i’m such a big fan)

Posted by Allen on Wednesday, June 2007 at 9:39 AM

What the fuck is wrong with you people commenting on this blog?!  Hating so much on sexuality issues, do you think only heterosexuals kids were watching this show growing up?!  Get real, I’m a die hard-fan of this show since i was little and not because of Lion-o’s bulge but because it was just an awesome show!

About the new character design, that’s crap… it has nothing to do with the series, it looks like a cheap version of the real deal!

I don’t think he looks that bad. I watched Thundercats as a kid too. The only thing I see wrong with him is he is too skinny but thats about it. Everything else looks cooler to me on him

I Love it!!!! i wanna see this new Lion-O fighting must be very very cool!!! i prefere this one to the old one! its more dinamic! and i think it will be really better!!! I hope i get to see some new thundercat action soon!! wink

Posted by Chico Peres on Wednesday, June 2007 at 12:15 AM

Come on guy’s its not so bad. Not great, but not bad. I thought the new batman look suck but its kinda grown on me an i love it now. We got to see more before we can crap on it. This might just be a concept anyway.

Posted by dsa on Friday, June 2007 at 7:03 AM

Haha, oh wow, no this will suck.  Since it’s a remake, it’s guaranteed to lack any originality.  It looks very generic, kids will not notice it, and nostalgic thundercats fans will not apprectiate it.

This is sad. I thought that we had come further along in the world of animation. The new he-man looks about the same what happened to lion-o? he looks like he is dying of cancer or some other degenerative disease. the suit is ok but the hair, body, sword and acessories are all wrong.  Where’s the paw with the rings that was important to the story line? All in all its a bad move i guess the pta that had the show pulled can say that they won the war on killing the thundercats!

None of you actually watch Anime do you? Take Outlaw Star for an example. Liono reminds me of Gene Starwind. And if you watch that Anime, Gene can beat the hell out of anyone. He’s freaking awesome.

Actually I really like the new Liono. Sure he doesn’t seem to have the Father Figure thing going on, but he does still have the sense of nobility, and more of an “older brother” sense. I actually think this new style of Thundercats would be freaking sweet, if it were actually being made.

However, from research I’ve done, there actually wont be a new Thundercats. Which makes me sad. I really enjoyed them. However if you check out IMDB in 2010 there is a Real Life version of it being released. Which could go either way. But they didn’t make Transformers suck, so it is possible that this will also go over well.

The new Lion-O looks good. I just don’t like the ponytail. I hope the story line is good, and not some trendy stupid crap with them being in a band or anything retarded like that. They should keep it with the old format (Aliens…monsters). The art looks good makes me excited. I’m really skeptical about the story thought. Does anyone know what it might be? If they are in high school, or a band, of a secret agency or any f**kery like that I’ll be very upset. I’m pretty sure WB will F*** this up.

Thunder…. thunder…... thunder crap….hooooooooo!!

New version sucks big time, trow him a burger or something.

I wonder how Cheetara will look, I hope, really just hope she does not lose those curves.

Posted by Predator on Saturday, July 2007 at 5:41 AM

We want our Lion-O to be more in line with the average American physique.  At least like this—http://img57.exs.cx/img57/4223/dude9ky.jpg None of that Japanimation shit. We don’t need another post-year-2000 metrosexual lame-ass Spider-Man look. Ok? This is serious. We mean business. Oh, and throw Maggie-Q in there too. She’s hawt. Lion-O and Maggie-Q would make an item.

As A Old Fan Of The Thundercats, This New Look SUX, Stop Making Japanese Looks!

Nicolas From Argentina.

but lion-o wasn’t a middle aged muscle man, in the original he was 19 when they reached third earth. The plot sounds awful for this new version too. I really hope that it doesn’t happen!

As a follower of this media, since I have a reckoning of memory, I have to say this… “IT’S ABOUT TIME…” You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for an TC remake (just like Guyver).  Lion-O looks so frigging cool (and yes I was wondering about how Cheetah-Ra will look like too). And Panthro and Mum-Rah. Damn…It WAS about time. I wonder about Sylver Hawks too. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, keep me posted… Will ya???

Y, Y, Y, Do they (producers/directors/...) always have to change everything, WHY…

LIONO is a ??? - LION… Right?
This “New Look” makes him look like a Meercat.

Let me guess, no more Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats Ho!

I can already hear the “New Warcry”, Scurry, Scurry, Flinch! AAHHHH!

OK, OK, i’m all for the upgrading for the Current Generation and New Look. but can he at least have some Muscle. The kids are gonna be to afraid to sneaze… Just incase.

Umm, yeah, no, just bring back the old designs, are we really that up tight today that we believe our children seeing humanoid cat people from another universe fighting a mummy in a fantasy world on an animated cartoon is going to adversely affect them?  Come on people, it’s 2007, that skinny, safer version of Liono is the exact kind of p.c. crap that will get this show cancelled in about 13 episodes.  Just update the old design, don’t make him some teenager, there are already the twins and Tigro to deal with… is the new Snarf going to be hairless Egytian and speak with a british accent?

Hey there,

Where did this image come from?

Thanks,

Clare

Posted by Clare on Thursday, September 2007 at 6:55 PM

All I can say is this is an absolute travesty. Thundercats is one of those few cartoons I remember watching as a little kid (I was born in ‘84 so most of the stuff that was on was quite hazy for me to remember). Today, I follow the old episodes like it were a religion, and make sure everyone I know knows my passion. It’s almost hard to see anything under of the Thundercats banner when it comes to a new cartoon, considering how I’ve been working diligently on my own Thundercats revival for my portfolio at school. I do really pray this is all a hoax

Posted by "Das Baron" on Saturday, October 2007 at 2:22 PM

Yes, I have found out that this image is a hoax - thank goodness!! grin

Posted by Clare on Saturday, October 2007 at 7:47 PM

oh thank Jaga

Posted by "Das Baron" on Monday, October 2007 at 3:41 AM

even though it’s a hoax. the image doesnt bother me. for me just hope that if they make a new series it doesnt become retarded like the new cartoons that are out there now, like Pokemon. hopefully it has good story like gargoyles did or even like Avatar.

Posted by Bobby dude on Friday, November 2007 at 9:45 PM

Ughh, definitly glad the image is a hoax..

I was born in the 90s and i personally liked Liono the way he was. However, the only reason that they are changing the looks of the characters is because japanese animation sells better then american, so they are trying to make more money out of it and also the mangaka’s(manga artists) draw like that now.

Posted by Mai on Sunday, January 2008 at 9:41 PM

i dig it!!
but where is the glove? ;p

Posted by manos Hatzidakis on Friday, February 2008 at 6:45 AM

of fuck! is that the new lion o character? you know what, if your going to remake the 80’ s cartoon, like thundercats, you need to have the same image , because if not, well thats not the thundercats or lion o that we all know.

Posted by s|Lv3|2 on Friday, February 2008 at 4:09 AM

Hey! Does anyone know where can I find information about this new Thundercats cartoon? I can’t seem to find anything online!!!

Posted by Diego on Friday, March 2008 at 7:32 AM

I`m not find anything too :( Help please.

Posted by Andrey on Wednesday, April 2008 at 2:21 PM

Andrey, what do you find?

Posted by Remontnik on Monday, May 2008 at 12:43 AM

Hell no! This is a disgrace to us Thundercats fans! I’ve adored the series and I still do. This is stupid, rediculous and as the first man said, too much Pokemon. Bring back the original Thundercats! If the movie which is supposed to come in 2010 will be based on these new looks then I don’t want to see it! Why do they always have to change everything? Stay with the originality for gods sake!
